The BKS1S tool breakage monitoring system was developed for manufacturing processes where maximum reliability and clear results are critical. As a tactile probe, the system inspects tools directly and gently, without hard stops or unnecessary wear. A particularly practical feature is that the BKS1S can monitor two tools simultaneously or independently, making it ideal for machines with multiple tool holders. The probe head features a completely sealed design and withstands even the harshest operating conditions. With a diameter of 32 mm and a robust, anodized aluminum housing, the BKS1S is engineered for continuous industrial use. Its dual-seal protection reliably guards against coolants, chips, and dirt. The probe stylus is designed for a typical service life of 10 million cycles and can be customized with alternative lengths or materials if required. The drive mechanism operates under precise position and speed control, ensuring that the probe stylus makes contact with the tool exceptionally gently. This protects tool cutting edges and prevents measurement errors. Scanning can be performed in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction, covering an angular range of 15 to 270 degrees. Upon power-up, the probe automatically returns to its fixed rest position—without the need for any teach-in or referencing cycle. For integration into machine control systems, the BKS1S offers PNP and NPN outputs that are contactless, wear-free, and short-circuit proof. The output signals can be inverted via DIP switches and remain latched until the next scanning cycle. Electrical connection is established via a 5-pin M12 connector, making installation particularly simple. With an IP68 protection rating and an operating temperature range of 0 to +70 °C, the BKS1S is ideally suited for demanding CNC environments.
