Registration
All the DVDs install TraceParts in demonstration mode.
In this mode, TraceParts runs for 10 days, without functional limitations.
After 10 days, which constitute the "trial period", you must register TraceParts in order to be able to continue to use it.
The TraceParts registration method depends on the purchased license type and the protection chosen at the time of the library purchase.
Nodelocked License
It can be protected in two ways:
By a code
By a physical key (dongle)
Protection by code
Registration during the evaluation period
With TraceParts running:
- Go to "?" and select "Protection"
- The Protection window will display:
- Enter a user name
- Enter a company name
- Enter a valid license number
- Click the "Code request" button; the following window will display:
If the workstation does not have Internet access,
- Click "No"
- A text file will be created containing the information needed for generating a code.
With this file:
Either:
- From a workstation connected to the Internet, go to the URL: http://www.traceparts.com/support/license.asp and fill out the code request form using the information given in the previously created text file.
- On receipt of the registration code(s), go back to the protection window and enter the registration code(s) in the "Registration code" field.
- Click on the "Registration" button.
- End of registration procedure.
Or:
- Fax the generated text file.
- A fax will be sent back with the activation code(s) corresponding to the order.
- Go to the protection window and enter the received code(s) in the "Registration code" field.
- Click on the "Registration" button.
- End of registration procedure.
If the workstation has Internet access
- Click "Yes"
- The computer's Internet browser will open and connect automatically to the page http://www.traceparts.com/support/license.asp
- Click "Nodelocked license" as type of license;
- Fill out the code request form using the information given in the previously created text file.
- On receipt of the registration code(s) (by e-mail), two options:
- Go back to the protection window and enter the registration code(s) in the "Registration code" field.
- Click on the "Registration" button.
Or
- Use the "traceparts.dat" file attached to the e-mail and containing the codes. Then you merely have to copy this file in the ..\Licences\TraceParts\ installation directory of TraceParts (by default c:\program files\Trace Software\TraceParts)
- End of registration procedure.
Registration after the evaluation period
- Start TraceParts
- The following error will appear to indicate that the trial period has ended:
- Click "OK" for the protection window to open.
- From there, the procedure is the same as for the "Registration during the evaluation period" case.
Protection by a physical key (dongle)
There are two types of keys:
- Key on parallel port;
- USB key.
Whatever the type of key, they are delivered preprogrammed.
You merely have to connect them to the corresponding port of the computer and start TraceParts.
School License
The TraceParts installation installs a "traceparts.lf" license file in the "c:\program files\Trace Software\TraceParts" directory (path in the case of a default installation").
This "traceparts.lf" file installed by default contains the evaluation license.
The installation of the school license consists in replacing this "traceparts.lf" file containing the evaluation license by another, with the same name, but containing the school license.
To obtain the file containing the school license:
- Go to our site at: http://www.traceparts.com/support/license.asp#l1
- Fill out the form there.
- The file containing the school license will be sent to the specified e-mail address.
- Copy the license file in the ..\Licences\TraceParts\ directory in the TraceParts installation directory (by default c:\program files\Trace Software\TraceParts).
- Confirm the replacement of the "traceparts.lf" file already there.
- End of procedure.
IMPORTANT :
- Always use a COPY of the "traceparts.lf" file sent by e-mail. NEVER use the original.
- Keep the "traceparts.lf" file sent in a safe place.
Floating License
A floating license is a license which is not associated with a workstation, but with a set of workstations connected in a network.
For TraceParts to be able to use a floating license, the following prerequisites are necessary:
- The floating license server (Network License Manager, or "NLM") must have been installed on a network workstation
- The administration module of the license server must have been installed on at least one network workstation (which can be the same workstation on which the NLM server is installed)
- One or several activation codes must have been entered in the administration module.
- The NLM client must have been installed on each workstation where the TraceParts application is installed.
Obtaining the activation code
- Open the NLM administration module (through the start menu/all programs/Trace Software/Network License Manager/Administration tool)
- Note the "Server Identification".
- From a workstation with Internet access, connect to the page: http://www.traceparts.com/support/license.asp#l2
- Fill out the form at the address indicated above
- An e-mail will be sent back with the activation code(s) of the floating license.
Entering the activation code(s)
- Open the NLM administration module (through the start menu/all programs/Trace Software/Network License Manager/Administration tool)
- Go to the "File" menu

- To enter the activation codes manually, use "Add Licenses".
- To enter automatically the activation codes included in the *.dat file attached with the e-mail and containing the codes, use "Add licenses(.dat)".
- For more information on the NLM configuration, refer to its documentation.
- 3) Finally, the administration module could resemble this:
Configuration of the NLM client on each workstation
The configuration of the NLM client is carried out at the same time as its installation.
There is no other configuration to be done. TraceParts will automatically detect its presence and will use the floating license server without further adjustment.
