This option is used to set the language used by TraceParts and the CAD format in which the parts must be generated.

Note: The above image may vary according to the CAD formats – in particular for CATIA V5.

Language:
Language to be used by TraceParts.
  • You must close and restart TraceParts for the transition from one language to another to take effect.
CAD format:
CAD software in which to insert the parts.
  • The "CAD format" list proposes only the formats for which the user has a license
  • In the case of multi-CAD use, TraceParts automatically selects the right format (TraceParts automatically selects the CAD format from which it was opened).
"Any user can modify the selection of CAD format" checkbox
  • Checked: Anyone can change the CAD format, whether he has administrator rights or not.
  • Unchecked: only a user with administrator rights can change the CAD format.

System - Database (top)
This option allows definition of the type and location of the two categories of databases used by TraceParts.

For operation, TraceParts uses two categories of databases: the parts index and the customization database.

Parts index
This is the largest database of TraceParts. It contains the list of all the parts available in TraceParts, and several other information items required for their use.

The parts index base can be of two types:

  • "Microsoft Access" format (PartsIndex.mdb file – resides in the "system" directory, in the same location as the directory containing the parts ("Parts" directory).
  • Or
  • "Microsoft SQL Server" format. This database format is reserved for experienced users.
Note: Only with "Microsoft SQL Server" database type can the ID be used (and this is not mandatory).

Customization database
The customization database is used by the external database link module - (not available for TraceParts).
System - Cache (top)

This option is used to manage the TraceParts cache.

The cache is a directory in which a copy of each inserted part is stored. When an insertion is to be made, TraceParts searches the cache to see whether the part to be inserted is not already there.
In the affirmative, it uses it rather than regenerating an existing part.

Note: The behavior described above is true if a "CAD files repository" has not been defined.

  • "Cache" directory: specifies the "Cache" directory path. By default the "Cache" directory path is located in the "My documents\TraceParts\Cache" directory of the current user.
  • Cache for parts: sets the cache size. The "Clear Cache" button deletes the "cache" directory contents.
  • Cache for images: sets the size of the image cache (located in the "cache" directory). The "Clear Cache" button deletes the "cache" directory contents.

System - Directories (top)

This option allows defining of the paths of the "Parts" directory, "Working directory" and "Temp" directory of TraceParts.
It is also used to specify the different search paths where TraceParts might have to search for information for its operation.

  • "Parts" directory:
Path of the directory containing the parts.
  • Working directory:
Path of the directory where the files containing the inserted parts are created (by default, this directory is in "My documents\TraceParts\Project" of the current user profile),
  • "Temp" directory:
Path of the temporary directory of TraceParts (by default, this directory is in "c:\documents and settings\%user profile%\Local settings\Temp\TraceParts" of the current user profile).

Search paths
The paths can be local paths, network paths or URLs.

Two categories of paths exist:

Databases:
Used by the external data link module, it specifies the location of the databases that it uses. By default, no database search path is defined.

Documents:
Used to indicate to TraceParts where to search for the documents related to the parts. By default, there are two document search paths:
  • A local path pointing to the "documents" directory created by TraceParts at the time of its installation. The default path is then %installation path%\PartsData\Documents (where %installation path% is the path chosen at the time of installation of TraceParts for its location. By default "c:\program files\Legris_E3-Catalogue")
  • A URL that points to our web site where all the existing documents are stored.
Notes:
  • The order in which the paths appear in the list is the order in which they are searched by TraceParts. This order can be changed using the "Up" and "Down" buttons after having selected the path to be moved,
  • To add a path, use the "Add" button,
  • To modify an existing path, use the "Edit" button after having selected the path to be modified
  • The paths can be in UNC format (in \\server\PartsData\Documents form)

Special case of CATIA V5 (top)

Below is the "system" configuration window in the case of CATIA

There are additional properties for CATIA V5 (CATIA V5R13 and later):

Create an axis system
If selected, TraceParts will draw an axys system with each inserted component.
Below is an example of a part inserted without any axis system (left hand side) and a part with an axis system (right hand side):
Layer for part bodies
Allow the user to select a layer to insert TraceParts components to. Layer number can be choosen using the drop down list.
Insert the part into current assembly
If checked, TraceParts will insert the parts directly in the product enabled at the time of the insertion.

If unchecked, TraceParts will insert the parts in separate files.

Notes:
  • If this property is checked and no product is open at the time of the insertion, the part will be generated but not inserted in CATIA.
  • If this property is unchecked, the "External part" and "Internal part" properties will be disabled.
EXTERNAL component
Default part type of TraceParts at the time of an insertion in CATIA V5.
If selected, the part will be inserted in the current product as external part (in the CATIA sense of the term).

INTERNAL component
If selected, the part will be inserted in the current product as internal part (in the CATIA sense of the term).
Let the application decide
With TraceParts standard, this option is the same as "External component".

Example of insertion of assembly as internal and external components:

In this example:
  • Assembly RBS_5 is an external component,
  • Assembly RBS_8 is an internal component.
Note:
  • The oranged colored icon tells that the link between CATIA V5 and TraceParts is working.
  • When the link is not working, the other icons in TraceParts tools bars are greyed.
Only when it is orange, can TraceParts insert in CATIA. V5.
