The Search Engine: the PartFinder Tab

The TraceParts has a powerful search engine accessible from the PartFinder tab.

It allows you to rapidly find the type of part that you wish to insert. For this you have several possible types of search:
  • Search by opening out the tree structure of a classification (click here for more details);
  • Visual search by scrolling through the thumbnails (there are 2 different ways of displaying the results of your search);
  • Quick search;
  • Advanced search.

    Quick search

    It is like a web search:

    Sequence of operations of a quick search:
  • The user enters one or several search criteria, in the form of words, or of a phrase,
  • He chooses how the search is to be carried out:
      - "All words", indicates that all the criteria must appear in the title of the part for it to be in the search result, and this, in whatever order they appear.
      - "Any word", indicates that any of the criteria input can appear in the title of the part for it to be in the search result.
      - "Exact string", indicates that the title of the part must contain the criteria exactly as input for the part to be in the search result.
  • He indicates the scope of the search:
      - "In selected category": the search will be carried out from the place selected in the tree structure located under the classification;
      - "In selected catalog": the search will be carried out in the classification being used.
  • He launches the search, validating with the "enter" key.

    Advanced search
    A true context-sensitive search engine, the search criteria vary according to the position in the classification:

    In an advanced search, criteria common to all the parts (located in the category selected in the tree structure) are proposed.

    The value of each search criterion can then:
  • Be selected among those appearing in the drop-down list of the criterion (this list gives all the available values);
  • Be input manually.

    Note: If the "Real time display of search result" box is checked, the search result will be updated on each selection or input of a criterion.

    Tips to optimize the search
  • In "advanced search" mode, if you enter for instance the word "bearing", the engine will extend its search to all the words containing "bearing" (search equivalent to "*bearing*").
  • In order to optimize the search result, the engine does not take into account accents or capital letters.
  • If you wish to accelerate your search, you can disable the "Real time display of search result" option located above the thumbnails:
    You then merely have to click on the icon to trigger display of your search result.
  • The real time display of search result is activated by default when TraceParts is launched for the first time. However, it is advised not to click on the root of the extended ICS classification with this option activated, because the time necessary to display the results is logically proportional to the number of elements found (see the "Interface" section of the configuration panel for more information).
  • You can delete the search criteria at any time by clicking on the button
